New game from New Edge Preview: Tower defense: Wrath of Gods
- Father, where did they come from? These creatures eager to eat us all away!
- I think, they’ve always been here, son. Scattered over the vast woods, secret holes and steep rocks, living in the places, that neither you, nor I have ever seen, and I hope, never will.
- But then why are they attacking us? The world used to go so well with us! What could possibly put them into rage... We’ve never hunted them and never even thought of it as the river supplied us with fish, the ground gave us bread, and berries we took from the forest. May be they were sent by other people? You’ve said, that other people can be angry and dangerous.
- No, son, there are no other people here.
- Then who is sending these creatures? They couldn’t figure it out for themselves. They are too dumb for it.
- See, long time ago, when you weren’t even born, we used to live in a different place. Not that it was far from here, but, it isn’t easily explained... well, it was an absolutely different place. It has always been either too cold, or terribly hot there. The ground was hard as a rock, and nothing would grow on it. It was a tough time for us. There wasn’t enough food, people were getting ill and dying.
The only help that we could count on was coming from Gods. These were angry and cruel Gods. They made us attack our neighbors, taking what little they had, killing the strongest and the bravest of them or offering them in sacrifice to Gods. They were taking our children, to turn them into loyal votaries, as cruel and angry as themselves.
But once our people rose against their Gods. We killed their votaries, destroyed their temples and shut the Gods up in the underground stronghold. The last thing the Gods made an oath, that once they would get free and destroy us. Not all of us believed the dreadful oath of the defeated Gods, but the wisest heeded their warning. And they managed to find the way to this beautiful land, where we have lived happily for many years. And now the Gods are set free and, unable to forgive our betrayal, come to lay their vengeance upon us.
- What on Earth are we to do? Sooner or later but these creatures will eat us all away!
- Fear is beneath you, my son. We have created a spell, which allows containing the creatures on the roads. We have built protective towers, which help us to damage them without fear of being eaten. The main aim is not to allow them to houses that give shelter to our women and children. Your mother and sisters are among them.
- But father, their numbers are swelling daily.
- We’ll build more towers. Much, much more and kill them all off.
- May be we’ll better search for another place for living? Where there are no enemies. We did leave our motherland, didn’t we?
- We won’t leave. We lived happily here and we are tired of running. The Gods will find us, wherever we go. So we’d better give them a battle now, while our souls aren’t completely taken over by fear! Let us conquer the monsters, or at least kill as many of them as we can, and die not as cowards and slaves, but free people fighting for what they feel to belong to them.
- Just like in these tales, that mother tells?
- Yes, just like in the tales... Take your staff, son and go to the tower. I’ll be there for you.
